Support to Basic Education in CHT

Project Purpose

      Establish, Promote and sustain a quality primary education system in the CHT with improved teaching, relevant learning materials, and an efficient and effective decentralized management system in line with principles of PEDPII and III and GoB priorities.

Which focuses-

  •  HDC, Line department and SMCs Management system strengthened
  •  Increased access to basic education for the CHT population in 4 Upazilas
  • Improved quality of education, including MLE and child entered learning methodology in HDC-CHTDF supported 5 upazilas and PTI

  • Seminar/ consultation/ dialogue organized in district level involving relevant stakeholders on primary education issues
  • Fact-sheet on district-specific education information to support advocacy developed
  • A set of Information, education and communication (IEC) materials published
  • Networking visits/ meeting of HDC representatives/ staff for issuing circular/ directives/ guideline to DPE/MoPME/MoCHTA
  • Organize dialogue meeting with local MP and Chairman, Member, Chief Executive, Executive of HDC for increase of resource allocation in favor of education
  • Developing strategy to support primary education

  • Exposure Visit  arranged for selected participants from MG/CMC/LNGO to learn about implementation of  School Feeding & Adult Lieracy programmes outside CHT
  • Project Schools with safe drinking water facilities increased
  • Annual planners for classroom with photos and messages in indigenous language produced and printed.
  • Annual report publication
  • Teachers received stipend support through HDCs to complete SSC/HSC level education from Open University
  • Grant support to SMC for room extension for selected schools provided
  • Sharing meeting on MLE to promote inclusive education organized with the Teachers and education officials at upazila  level
  • 12 days long basic teachers' training at district level

Major activities accomplished in LoA 2013  ( Oct 2013-Dec 2014)

  • 6 days long Training on Education Planning and Management for 3 HDCs staffs
  • 5 days long training successfully accomplished on Academic supervision, Inspection and mentoring for 3 HDCs staffs.
  • 4 schools visited by DPEO and 24 schools visited by UEO/AUEO to increase the line department involvement in monitoring, supervision and exchange experiences
  • 5 schools visited by the Councilor, CEO and EO to ensure high level monitoring, mobilize and exchange ideas
  • 5 workshops accomplished with the SMC members for school management issues at upazila level
  • An exposure visit conducted to kishoreganj District to gather knowledge on academic supervision, quality education and exchange ideas
  • A stakeholder meeting accomplished on primary education issues with different education service providers.
  • A dialogue meeting on education conducted by BHDC with education minister, MoCHTA minister.
  • Developed posters with educational information to support primary education.
  • News letter has been published with 8 pages in 4 color containing project activities

Major activities accomplished in LoA 2013 ( Oct 2013-Dec 2014)

  • Installed 7 new billboard and 10 reprinted.
  • Grants for SDP, Renovation, separate toilet disbursed to SMC and accomplished accordingly
  • A workshop conducted with the stakeholders and UzAC members on school selection  and supporting process at Naikhongchari upazila
  • Supported water purification kits to all schools for pure it water filter to ensure safe water at schools
  • Annual planner printed for school teachers and distributed
  • Regular supporting WFP biscuit program monitoring at 4 schools
  • 300 adult learners completed their basic and post literacy courses from 10 centers in Bandarban
  • Conducted 12 days long basic teachers training for Naikhongchari Teachers
  • Developed Teachers refreshers leaf let
  • Teachers from project supported schools are provided 2 days long leaf let based refreshers  and completed leaflet 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11 and12
  • Conducted monthly Teachers coordination meeting and staffs coordination meeting
  • Conducted exposure visit inside CHT for naikhongchari Upazila SMC and Teachers at Thanchi and Rowangchari

  •   Accommodation facilities for PSC students at PSC center area

Way forward

Continue support  until schools are well established even after the schools are nationalized
